Wrong Protest
The protests in China are mostly against strict lockdowns due to Covid. These lockdowns are not the same as the “lockdowns” we had in the United States. The lockdowns in China led to people being burned alive inside a building because they were literally locked in.
Sure, we had “lockdowns” in schools, churches, and businesses being closed, but nobody was literally locked in. There were limitations placed on businesses, but most were not ordered not to do business or engage in commerce. In the U.S., 43 percent of businesses closed temporarily.
Complaining and protesting that you can’t do business is legitimate. You have a gripe. It sucked. None of us liked it and it’s not something we wanted to keep. Democrats did not want to keep the economy shut down and if you remember correctly, outside of being gaslighted, all the shutdowns started while Donald Trump was president (sic).

God Save The Queen
As you know by now, Queen Elizabeth II died yesterday at the age of 96. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days is the longest for any British monarch. Unless you’re 71 or older, Elizabeth was queen for your entire life. Now begins the reign of King Charles III.
My ancestry is British. According to Ancestry.com, I’m 87 percent British. I’m also ten percent Irish so there’s some UK in there too. So I feel a bond with England, especially when it comes to music and comedy. Food, not so much. Who wants beans for breakfast?
Anyway, I like the monarchy. I like that it’s a constitutional monarchy. I admire Queen Elizabeth and believe in my heart she was good for the United Kingdom and the world. I admire her strength and resolve. And I don’t dread the reign of King Charles. Besides, it’s not like we have a choice…

Pence and the FB-Fly
For only the second time in his life, Mike Pence committed a noble act and called on his Republican Party to stop attacking the FBI. But I think Mike Pence forgets this is the same party that called for his hanging after he committed the first noble act of his life.
When Mike Pence refused to help Trump overturn the election he lost, his white nationalist terrorists ran through the Capitol chanting, “Hang Mike Pence.” This was after Trump tweeted an attack on Pence and goaded this MAGA mob to go after him. The terrorists came within 40 feet of Mike Pence and his family. Donald Trump has never apologized for this or accepted responsibility.

SDX Award
Just as I did with the RFK Award, I’m posting it here in case this blog is the only venue where you follow me. I won the Sigma Delta Chi Award last night. This award is given each year by the Society of Professional Journalists.
I received an email a few days ago about the awards ceremony, but I got that just because I’m on their mailing list. I had intended to watch and thought it’d be crazy if I won. But I also thought that if I had won then I’d probably already know. I didn’t know.
I had a rather large spaghetti dinner early last night and it put me into a spaghetti coma. I recovered late enough to screw up my sleep schedule and found a message from my cartooning colleague Tim Campbell saying “Congrats again.” I replied, “For what?”. He said, “You won the SDX.”…

Why Do I Hate Tucker?
Even though Fox News is more of an entertainment outlet than a real source of news, actual journalists do work at Fox News. Sure, you don’t see them in prime time and a lot of their contributions get manipulated to push agendas over news, but there are journalists at Fox News who take their jobs seriously.
But while Fox News highlights hacks like Greg Gutfeld sneering at actual news and Tucker Carlson defending Vladimir Putin while sitting in a comfortable studio where the greatest dangers are sniffles from the brisk central air system, real journalists like Pierre Zakrzewski, Oleksandra Kuvshynova, Benjamin Hall, and Brent Renaud are in war zones exposing the truth to the rest of the world.
